Kalaavid (Sanskrit: कलाविद् · kalāvid · "one who knows art") is a curated global marketplace where clients post creative briefs and vetted artists across every discipline take them on. There is a curator in the middle — making introductions, vouching, and making sure the work gets made.
The founder is Sanjay Dangi, a working artist who spent years on the freelance side of commission work and watched too many briefs evaporate, too many fees disappear, and too many clients end up with the wrong artist for the job.
Kalaavid is the platform he wanted to exist: small, curated, fairly priced, with payment held in escrow until the work is approved. We never let a client and artist negotiate alone; we never take fees off the artist's payout twice. Just a flat 10–15% commission and a real human paying attention to the match.
What we do
- Curate a small directory of vetted artists across painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, calligraphy, dance, music, film, and more.
- Match incoming briefs with three to five artists whose practice fits — not a thousand profiles to scroll.
- Hold the commission in escrow via Stripe Connect. Funds release on milestone approval.
- Mediate disputes when they happen and keep both sides honest.
What we don't do
- Resell artwork. The work belongs to its makers; we just make introductions.
- Auto-match algorithmically. A real human looks at every brief.
