Kalaavid is free to join, free to post a brief, and free to apply as an artist. We make money only when work gets made.

How escrow works

1. You agree on milestones with the artist as part of accepting the proposal.
2. You fund a milestone via Stripe Checkout. Funds sit on the Kalaavid platform balance — they aren't transferred to the artist yet.
3. The artist delivers the work for that milestone.
4. You approve. The artist's portion (the milestone amount minus our commission) transfers to their connected Stripe account.
5. If you're not happy, you can reject the milestone — the artist gets the feedback and resubmits. While the funds are still held, you can also request a refund (email support). Once a milestone is approved and released, that step is one-way.

What you don't pay

• No listing fee. Posting a brief is free.
• No subscription. Browsing artists, saving them, or messaging is free.
• No application fee. Artists apply for free and only pay when they earn.
• No double-dipping. We take our commission once, on the artist's side, transparently shown on every contract page. Stripe processing fees come out of our cut, not yours.

Stripe & FX

Payments go through Stripe. Stripe's standard processing fee (typically 2.9% + a small flat fee) is absorbed by Kalaavid out of our commission — the artist's payout is the milestone amount minus our commission only, with no Stripe deduction. The Kalaavid platform balance is denominated in CAD; if a transaction is in another currency, standard Stripe FX conversion fees apply on the conversion. Currently, all listed prices and contracts on Kalaavid are in CAD.
